The Interconfessional Diploma in Theory and Practice of Bible Translation (IDBT) is part of the educational offering of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Urbaniana University (PUU) within the second cycle of studies for the Licentiate in Biblical Theology. It is intended as a concrete tool for the formation of specialists in Bible translation (Verbum Domini 115).
The IDBT is characterized by an interconfessional dimension: in fact, the teaching activity is accomplished both by PUU teachers and by external teachers who are specialists in biblical translation and belong to the various Christian confessions (Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant), in the context of the “Common Bible Work” initiated by the Second Vatican Council (Dei Verbum 22, Directory for Ecumenism 183-186).

How did belief in the resurrection arise within Judaism in the two centuries before Christ? Earlier texts (Psalm 88 and Job 3) attest the ancient Jewish belief that the dead have a shadowy existence in the underworld, while Ecclesiastes and Sirach have no belief in any meaningful personal afterlife. However, reflection on the persecution of devout Jews by Antiochus Epiphanes (167-164 BC) led to a growing belief in individual resurrection, especially for martyrs. Such a resurrection belief is evident in Daniel 12 and 2 Maccabees 7, as well as Wisdom 3, before it becomes predominant in the New Testament.

The Biblical Federation in the Middle East is deeply saddened by the passing from this earthly existence of one of its members, Fr. Peter Madros; he has now entered the heavenly glory at the age of 71, after a life totally devoted to pastoral and academic work in the service of the Word.

Mai 2020 bis zum 24. Mai 2021 begangen wird. Das Jubiläumsjahr und das darauf folgende Jahrzehnt sollen eine Zeit der Gnade, eine wahre Kairos-Erfahrung sein – ein biblisches "Jubeljahr" für die Erde, Menschheit und alle Geschöpfe Gottes.

The year 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Catholic Biblical Federation. The year 2020 marks the 1600th anniversary of the death of Saint Jerome, the great translator of the Bible, who sought to render the Scriptures into the “common” everyday language of ordinary people, so to make the written Word of God available for all. His zeal to make the Scriptures accessible to people arises from his conviction that “ ignorant ia Scripturarum ignorantia Christi est” (ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ).

The "Biblical Inspiration of the entire Pastoral Ministry" (BIPM) is one of the major undertakings and goals of the Catholic Biblical Federation (CBF) and of the whole Church. The present book is an important step in this quest and for its implementation given that these guidelines have been developed in a joint process with the Biblical School of CELAM (CEBITEPAL). At the level of all Latin America and the Caribbean these guidelines provide an impulse and suggestions for organizing BAP.
